Families (Baal Teshuva)

When a family member becomes a baal teshuva (a religiously observant Jew), the resulting clash of values can lead to anger and despair, even estrangement. This can be one of the most difficult challenges a family will ever face. Ken has a special interest in helping families prevent, cope with, and heal these conflicts.

Family members respond in ways that ameliorate or exacerbate the intensity of conflict. There is hope—mutual respect and accommodation are possible in almost every family.

A caring, knowledgeable professional can help reconcile seemingly insurmountable differences in a three-step process:

  • assessment of family dynamics
  • formation of realistic individual and family goals
  • mediation and support for all in achieving these goals

Ken offers counseling for individuals and families, and is available to speak to groups and lead discussions. For more, see an article written by Ken on this topic; there is also a reading list.
